How GPS recording works
MOOV samples your device's GPS location and turns it into a route with distance, time, speed and altitude.
While you record, MOOV listens to your device's GPS and saves location points at a pace tuned to your activity type. The points form your route, and the gaps between them drive distance and speed.
- •Distance is the sum of the filtered route segments
- •Speed comes from the distance between points and the time between them
- •Altitude comes from the GPS vertical fix on each point
MOOV automatically filters inaccurate jumps and impossible speeds so a bad GPS moment doesn't distort your statistics.
For accurate GPS recording in the current web version, keep MOOV open while recording. Full background and locked-screen recording requires the native MOOV app, which is coming soon.
