GPS & recording
How GPS recording works and what affects it.
How GPS recording worksMOOV samples your device's GPS location and turns it into a route with distance, time, speed and altitude. Can MOOV record without internet?Yes — GPS recording works offline. Maps and syncing need internet. Why does MOOV need location permission?Location access is what makes route, distance and speed recording possible. Why should I keep MOOV open while recording? The web app pauses GPS when it goes to the background or the screen locks. Background GPS recordingBackground and locked-screen recording is not available in the web version yet.GPS accuracyGPS accuracy varies with environment and device — expect a few meters to tens of meters. Why does my route look inaccurate?Weak GPS signal makes the trace zig-zag or cut corners. Why is my distance different from another GPS device?Different devices and filters produce slightly different results. How average speed is calculatedDistance divided by the time you were actually moving. How maximum speed is calculatedThe highest plausible momentary speed in your filtered GPS data. What happens if GPS signal is lost?Recording pauses sampling and resumes when the signal returns. What happens when my internet connection returns?Saved activities sync automatically — nothing to redo.Battery usage while recordingContinuous GPS is the main drain — expect noticeably higher battery use.
